Gothic Reliquary Bone relics St Bertha of Kent, Jacob Great, Ranulphus 19th C.

Description

Late 19th - early 20th cent. Gothic wooden altar with 3 first class relics of:

  • Saint Ranulphus - Martyr (Ex Ossibus Sti Ranulphi martyris)

  • Saint James the Great - Apostle (De Capite Sti Jacobi majoris Apostoli)

  • Saint Bertha of Kent - Queen (Ex Ossibus Stae Berthoe)

These three catholic relics are placed in gold-plated bezel, possibly lightly gilded reliquaries in the shape of oval pendants surrounded by colored diamond cut crystals.

The Episcopalian wax seal at the back hold tight the intact red threads ensuring that a church leader certifies its authenticity.

Also, both the beautifully designed browned wooden cross and the antique wooden and fine quality removable box with relics have an amazing condition. This piece is full of Christian symbols: the base works as a catholic gothic Church with ogival arches with crest of the cloister symbolizing a cathedral that is crowned with the Catholic Cross.

Overall, it works as an altar and mausoleum-like which together make this a very meaningful antique and a real work of beauty. Also, because of the striking details of this reliquary this truly is a stunning and impressive work of religious art.
